Saint Paul is the capital of Minnesota and is home to nearly 300,000 people. More than 100,000 housholds are located in Saint Paul's 17 unique neighborhoods.
Downtown Saint Paul is home to the Science Museum of Minnesota, Minnesota Historical Society and the Minnesota Chilren's Museumj. It is the place to hear the Minnesota Opera and the St. Paul Chamber Ochestra. " A Prairie Home Companion is performed in the Fitzgerald Theater, and The Minnesota Wilds play in the Xcel Energy Center. Corporations with headquarters in St. Paul include 3M, Saint Jude Medical, Travelers and Ecolab.
The downtown area is surrounded by neighborhoods with rich cultural traditions and ethinic festivals. St. Paul is sometimes referred to as "the city of neigborhoods" because of these unique outlying communities. Highland Park, Crocus Hill, Merriam Park and Macalester Groveland are a few of the more well known.
In the northwest residents enjoy Como Park(Minnesota's only free zoo) and the Como Botoanical Gardens. The area is close to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. In the northeast, there is Phalen Park and to the south is the Mississippi River Valley and historic Fort Snelling. St.Paul is located in Ramsey County.
Compared to other metropolitan areas, St. Paul ranks second for the number of higher education facilities per capita(there are 11 colleges and universities). Also, the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area ranks second in number of theater tickets sold per capita(only New York sells more).
